Top 10 Grants for Women

Many women face unique obstacles in their school or workplace that their male counterparts may not even be aware of. There are many funding sources designed to specifically help women succeed in their endeavors.

Through the use of grants and scholarships, it’s easier to focus on steps toward achieving goals, particularly those that can be costly. This money is used either for women to further their education or fight for women’s rights by tackling issues within society. Let’s take a look at some of the funding available for women.

Altrusa International Foundation

Since 1962, the Altrusa International Foundation has dedicated energy and resources to bettering communities through volunteer and service programs. They offer funding (typically $250-$1,000) to certain women who aim to do the same.

American Association of University Women (AAUW)

The American Association of University Women contributes funding for young ladies pursuing college degrees. They also promote equality by offering legal aid to lawsuits based on sex or gender discrimination.

Arcus Foundation

The Arcus Foundation provides grants through the Arcus Fund, Gay & Lesbian Fund, Great Apes Fund, and the National Fund. Their focus in on fighting for social justice through diplomacy.

Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation

Aiming to boost positive self image through addressing obstacles in the media, the Arthur M. Black Family Foundation provides women with funding to tackle these issues throughout local communities.

Association For Women In Mathematics

In order to get more young women involved in science and mathematics programs, the Association for Women in Mathematics will help to partially fund those who do so. Their mission is to reach equality within these fields.

The Astraea National Lesbian Action Foundation

This organization fights for the empowerment of the LGBT community by taking on fights for social justice around the world. They provide grants to lesbians and allies who fight for similar causes.

Association for Women In Science Scholarships and Fellowships

AWIS offers grants of $1,000 to female high school seniors who are planning to further their education in a scientific field. They have also recently started the Kirsten R. Lorentzen Award, which helps college sophomores and juniors who are studying physics or geoscience.

Avon Foundation

For more than 50 years, the Avon Foundation has been focused on issues which specifically affect women in the community. Their main areas of focus are breast cancer awareness and ending domestic violence. The Avon Foundation will donate grants to work toward these key causes.

Barbara Lee Family Foundation

U.S. Representative Barbara Lee founded this organization to increase the amount of women in the arts, as well as in public office. The grants through the Barbara Lee Family Foundation are in place to help women enter all levels of government.

Canadian Women’s Foundation (CWF)

As Canada’s only official organization specifically designed for the advancement of women in society, CWF aims to fight for women’s rights throughout the world. Their main objectives are ending violence and managing poverty.
