An all boys’ high school can give young men support and inspiration. Choosing a private school can be the extra push that changes everything in the real world. It doesn’t come cheap, which means doing your homework to find the best place money can buy. Here’s a look at 5 of the *best all boys schools in the United States.
#1 St. Mark’s School of Texas, Dallas, TX
St. Mark’s School has more than 800 boys working hard at everything from academics to athletics. Starting in first grade, the school readies young men for college and life beyond through their senior year. With a 9:1 student teacher ratio, every kid is practically guaranteed a chance to learn.
#2 Collegiate School, New York, NY
The Collegiate School boasts a strong faculty and about 650 dedicated students, which rounds out to a delightfully low 7:1 student teacher ratio. Founded almost 400 years ago in 1628, it’s one of the oldest schools in the United States. Collegiate School is also one of the few who starts with five year old kindergarten boys and turns them into graduating men. They are currently in the process of expanding and rebuilding to more fully commit to their students.
#3 Regis High School, New York, NY
Regis High School is a little bit different from many other private schools. Regis is a Jesuit college prep school. Not only do they specifically serve Roman Catholic boys, but they offer it for free. Pretty amazing for one of the best schools in the country, particularly considering they have over 500 students in grades nine through twelve. They’ve been around for over 100 years, but only young men who score in “the top ten percent of the nation’s students of his age group” on the entrance exams should even hope for access to their 8:1 student teacher ratio.
#4 The Roxbury Latin School, West Roxbury, MA
Roxbury Latin School is one of the best in the country, genders aside, and is the single oldest school on the continent. Boys start in seventh grade and continue until they graduate; prepared for college. With a student body of about 300, their website states, “each boy is known and loved.” That’s reflected in a respectable 7:1 student teacher ratio and a comparatively lower tuition than schools with similar ivy league acceptance rates.
#5 St. Albans School, Washington, DC
St. Albans is not only a day school, but a boarding school as well. An episcopal school founded in 1909 and named after a British martyr, the school has a 9:1 student teacher ratio. Students in grades 4-12 make up just under 600 students. It’s rigorous, and demands hard work with morality; St. Alban’s website states their students “reach exceptional academic goals and exhibit first-rate athletic and artistic achievements, [but] as an Episcopal school we place equal emphasis upon moral and spiritual education.”
